    The Continuum of Man

A teaching framework for those who guide young men. Twelve sessions. One map. Handed over at sixteen, not forty.

    By Mark Weeks

This Isn't Written for Young Men

It's written for you. The dad. The teacher. The coach. The youth worker. The uncle who sees something in a lad that the lad can't see in himself yet.

Most men in midlife can trace their drift back to the same place. Somewhere between sixteen and twenty-five, nobody handed them a map. This is the map. You don't need to be perfect to teach it. Just one step further down the road and honest about the potholes.

For young men aged 16 to 25. Groups or one to one.

    Victim or Conqueror

Every element has two ends. The Victim says it happened to me. The Conqueror says what do I do with it? Same event. Different man.

Every Session. Sixty Minutes. Same Shape.

    The Twelve Sessions

    Mind. Spirit. Body.

    Mind

Everything you've ever built started as a thought. So has everything you've ever wrecked.

    Session 1

    Desire

Wanting is not deciding. Find out who told you to want it.

Fragment: "What I truly want is..."

    Session 2

    Attitude

Your attitude is a policy, not a mood. Set it every morning.

Fragment: "When life gets hard, I choose to..."

    Session 3

    Discipline

Discipline is freedom. Choose, or get chosen for.

Fragment: "The one promise I will keep to myself is..."

    Session 4

    Super Conscious

Catch the autopilot. Drop the beliefs you never chose.

Fragment: "A belief I'm choosing to drop is..."

    Spirit

A strong mind and a strong body can still feel empty. Spirit fills the hole.

    Session 5

    Mindfulness

Three seconds of space between the trigger and the punch.

Fragment: "When I slow down, I notice..."

    Session 6

    Attraction

You attract what you are. Look at your five.

Fragment: "The man I'm becoming attracts..."

    Session 7

    Negativity

Two wolves. The one you feed wins.

    Fragment: "I refuse to feed..."

    Session 8

    Superego

Character is what you do in the dark.

Fragment: "I am a man who will always... and never..."

    Body

Your body carries everything else. Neglect it and the other two pillars come down with it.

    Session 9

    Healthy Eating

Food is fuel. The body keeps score.

Fragment: "I fuel my body because..."

    Session 10

    Exercise

Every rep is a vote for the man you're becoming.

    Fragment: "Training teaches me..."

    Session 11

    Rest

Warriors rest. Athletes rest. Conquerors rest.

    Fragment: "I rest because..."

    Session 12

    Optimal Energy

Energy is a resource. Where you spend it is where your life goes.

Fragment: "I put my energy into..."

The Capstone. The Philosophy of Me.

Twelve sessions. Twelve Fragments. In the final session each young man pulls them into one page. His personal philosophy. Not yours. His. Something most forty year olds never write down.
